OPEN FIRES – “No open fires shall be permitted for any purpose whatsoever on the properties.” Covenants Article V, Section 1(e).
Open Fires or open burning is defined as “kindling or maintaining a fire where the products of combustion are emitted directly into the ambient air without passing through a stack or chimney. This includes burning in a burn barrel.”[2]
1. Open burning of refuse, trees, logs, brush, stumps, leaves and grass clippings is prohibited.
2. Campfires and bonfires not enclosed/directly in the ground are prohibited.
3. Fire pits must be in an approved container with an ember-suppressing lid or screen.
4. Patio units (portable wood and charcoal burning) must be safely and securely located and have an ember-suppressing lid or screen.
5. Always keep safety in mind by having a fire extinguisher within 10 feet or a working garden hose stretched to the fire place.
6. “Patio wood-burning unit shall be located at least 15 feet from the nearest structure which is not on the same property as the patio wood-burning unit. The unit shall not be located less than 10 feet from combustible structures on the same property or on any decks, porches or balconies.”[3]
