Dear Residents,
We hope this message finds you well. As winter continues and temperatures fluctuate, we are reaching out with an important safety reminder regarding the lakes in our community.
Recently, there have been multiple reports from residents and local authorities of children playing hockey and ice skating on our lakes. While we understand the appeal of outdoor activities during the winter, it is critical to emphasize that being on the ice is extremely unsafe. Many areas of the lakes are not fully frozen, and the risks of thin ice and potential accidents are significant.
Additionally, entering the lakes is considered trespassing, as the association’s regulations strictly prohibit such activities to protect everyone’s safety. It is our shared responsibility to ensure that these guidelines are respected to prevent any dangerous situations.
We urge all parents and guardians to have a conversation with your children about the seriousness of this matter. Please reinforce the importance of staying off the ice and understanding the risks involved. As a community, we all want to avoid the tragedy of someone falling through the ice and suffering injury—or worse.
If you witness individuals on the ice, we encourage you to contact the local police department to report the situation promptly. By working together, we can maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone in Sturbridge Lakes.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Stay safe and warm this winter season.
Sincerely,
Sturbridge Lakes Association
